how do i see who is on my network?

hi,

i'm sorta new to ubuntu, and i wanted to 2 things really:

1. is there a program i can install to see who is actually connected to my router? i have a linksys wrt54gs

2. is there a program i can install that functions like the windows wireless monitor. you know, it shows you all the wireless networks in the area, their signal strength, and if they have wep or not. this would be very helpful.

thank you very much

i have the sam erouter and you can use it to check in the router log in with your browser by typing in 192.168.1.1 and go to status > local network & dhcp client tables that should tell you every on logged on toyour network.

also i think network manager should do what you want as far as wifi goes.

is network manager already installed or do i need to get it from synaptic?

sorry yeah you will wanna get it from synaptic

how do i know if its installed now or not? i mean, which tabs is it under? system or applications?

you should get an icon of a computer in the upper right hand corner of your screen. i know with some machines i'v installed it on the computer must be reset.

ok, i have the lil computer icon but it says no network devices have been found. how do i make it see my wireless card? im posting form my laptop where i installed network manager on

i have an atheros superrange cardbus

get wifi-radar, its much better for scanning all the networks around you. it should work well, is your wireless working?

you can add wifi-radar using the add/remove programs, in the search put wifi and 2 will come up, select the wifi-radar one (i the better of the 2 imho).

ya, my wireless card is working, but network manager is not. so...

how do i completely remove network manager? then i'll add the one you suggest.
