new to edgy; need some help with beryl

hi all. brand new to ubuntu (using edgy). after a couple of days tinkering around on the forums, my sony vgn-t270p laptop seems to be performing flawlessly. now i'm interested in using beryl. after a friend told me about it, i checked out their site. wow!

this laptop uses intel integrated graphics (855gm). will it handle beryl?

if it can, what do i use? xgl? aiglx? what do those even mean?

do i install via synaptic or add/remove?

any help would be appreciated. thanks.

i'm only in day 3 of linux use so i cant offer any good advice, but you might want to check out sticky number 2.

i did use add remove hardware to install it, and it works fine for me under 7.04. it does some weird stuff every now and again, like popping me out of full screen (playing xmoto) and i have to then click on the menu bar to get back into full screen. no crashes yet though. and performance is great with my amd 3700+ and 7800gt geforce (after installing the nvidia driver)

installing beryl with an intel video card and a nvidia one is quite a very different thing... you will need to use aiglx to enjoy beryl. that's possible, but remember there is still a risk of messing up your system (xserver mainly), so you might want to read a few posts on troubleshooting on beryl.
here is how to install beryl so : http://wiki.beryl-project.org/index....lx_on_edgy_eft

after some more reading, i now understand beryl is still in beta. does anyone know the timeline of when beryl is out of beta? when beryl and compiz are combined?
