kde color depth and newbies
Category: Ubuntu-Desktop Environments
good morning, and hope all are well. before i bother you all with my problem, i wanted to say thanks to the forum for taking the time to even set this all up. i've already found many solutions and how-tos to problems i never even realized i had.
but enough kissing up...
i'm rocking kde on ubuntu 6.10, edgy eft, me thinks. anyway, i know it's the 64 version and i'm running an amd x2 4200+, 1 gig of ram, and an nvidia egeforce 3200 w/128 megs (drawing 128 from system to total 256 potential) and an msi k9n neo mobo with the 550 nforce chipset.
now, after downloading the nvidia drivers from the envy script, everything is working like a charm except on start up. when i first log into kde, it seems the resolution defaults to 1040x900 something and the color depth appears to be at 256 colors. it's easy enough to fix by using the nvidia driver utility and adjusting the resolution. the color dept seems to auto correct when i change screen size. anyway, it's a simple fix once my machine is up and running, but i'm wondering if this is a sign of a bigger problem, and if there is a way i can make my kde desktop remain in that resolution and color depth without that extra step.
i've tried pushing the "write to x-config" button on the nvidia driver setting program, but that does not seem to work. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
