wireless question
i've been trying to get my wireless connection to work for while now, but with no sucess. i have a cnet cwp-854 pci card and i can see ra0 under the network manager, however, when i configure it and active it, ubuntu simply won't boot next time and i end up having to re-install everything. also, i don't know what my chipset is. when i type lspci -n | less, i get the following output:

subsytem: ralink: unknown device 2561however, when i type iwconfig, after ra0 appears rt61. i'm not sure if this is just the driver that comes with ubuntu, or the chipset of my card. to make things even more complicated, i don't have a ethernet connection, so i have to keep switching from ubuntu to xp. however, i'm determined to get it to work, so please, could someone help me out?

how do unleash the full potential of my logitech lx700 keyboard/mouse?
hiya, i'm using the logitech lx700 mouse/keyboard combo in ubuntu 6.10. i know that logitech does not make drivers for linux so i was wondering where/if there are any other solutions available to me?
at the very least i want to get the back/forward buttons on my mouse to work but compete functionality would be ideal. i tried to get those buttons to work by following a ubuntu guide (the link to which i've lost since) and it didnt work and actually made things worse.
in short, are there any (simple) solutions for using logitech hardware?

kicker
i have an amd64 processor and an amd64 installation with kde.
i tried to install kickoff i386 with --force-architecture.
now when i try to reinstall, install,... kicker all is usual, but in some part of output it says
code:
unpacking kicker (from .../kicker_4%3a3.5.6-0ubuntu1~edgy1_amd64.deb) ...
replaced by files in installed package kicker-kickoff ...and when i run kicker it says
code:
kicker: error while loading shared libraries: libkonq.so.4: wrong elf class: elfclass64this really bothers me, as i now have no kicker...
help me, please

how do i see who is on my network?
hi,
i'm sorta new to ubuntu, and i wanted to 2 things really:
1. is there a program i can install to see who is actually connected to my router? i have a linksys wrt54gs
2. is there a program i can install that functions like the windows wireless monitor. you know, it shows you all the wireless networks in the area, their signal strength, and if they have wep or not. this would be very helpful.

solved thanks y'all
i'm new with linux all togethere, when loading every thing goes fine. but then i'm hit with with that thew xserver failed to start. then i get a blank screen where i typed "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" i have done this once and went through all the prompts and got to a blank screen where i could type commands, but i have no clue what to do. i am a complete newbie, as in just started looking at linux last week. i don't know any commands, but want to learn

newbie needs help
hi this is my first post
im brand new to linux and therefore ubuntu.
im trying to install ubuntu 6.10 on my pc but the installer doesnt pick up my hdd.
i want to overwrite the current windows xp installation which is resident on said disk. the disk is a seagate 250gb.
the windows installation still works fine. its just ubuntu that wouldnt pick up the hdd.
i have tried two different iso's but get the same problem. ive tried the ubuntu-6.10-desktop-i386 and the ubuntu-6.10-alternate-i386
please help i really want to get ubuntu up and running...

new to edgy; need some help with beryl
hi all. brand new to ubuntu (using edgy). after a couple of days tinkering around on the forums, my sony vgn-t270p laptop seems to be performing flawlessly. now i'm interested in using beryl. after a friend told me about it, i checked out their site. wow!
this laptop uses intel integrated graphics (855gm). will it handle beryl?
if it can, what do i use? xgl? aiglx? what do those even mean?
do i install via synaptic or add/remove?
any help would be appreciated. thanks.

file sharing major issues!!
hi! i'm very new to ubuntu. i've only known windows, and i'd like to think i'm a pretty savvy and curious computer person. but, i have to admit ubuntu has gotten me soooooo frustrated and annoyed i really just want to cry!
i have, for the past 3-5 days, been trying to download music. now, i installed gtk-gnutella to do the job. at the beginning, i was able to just open the program. i tried to search for a random song, just to see if it worked. nothing. kept saying i was behind a firewall. i don't have a firewall. so i tried getting help on this forum. every suggestion i found did not work. now i can't open the program at all. so i removed it and tried frostwire. thing is i need java sun 5.0. downloaded java sun...at least i thought that's what i did. now every time i try to install or remove a program i get the same error message:
e: sun-java5-doc: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
so i tried the forum again, and was given a set of instructions that led me to the website to download the documentation, but that didn't work either. so i removed frostwire and java sun 5.0 and returned to the forum to see if there's anoter program i can use to download music. ktorrent came highly recommended, so i installed it.
i can open the program, but i had to install the help center cause i couldn't figure out how to use the program. unfortunately for me, the help center can help me with every imaginable k-type program, but nothing on how to actually use ktorrent.
can someone...anyone please lend me a kind hand? i'm at my wits end here. with everything else, ubuntu has been great, but this major issue is driving me to drink!!

amarok problems
i feel like a retard.
i was goofing off in the amarok menu and accidentally hit, "hide main menu", and now it's gone. i can't find anything in the documentation on how to get it back. nothing in the right-click menu either. could someone help me out?
