how do i fix grub
i have a triboot system. i have windows xp, backtrack and ubuntu 6.06. i use gparted delted backtrack and installed backtrack2 over it. now i dont have the grub menu to choose which operating system i want. i know backtrack uses lilo instead of grub. how do i make it use grub instead. as soon as i turn on my laptop the backtrack automatically starts running. any help is great. thanks

scrolling pulsating
hello, i am new to linux and i am a little baffled i don't know why my computer has changed. when i open firefox and i scroll down a website page the page does not scroll down smoothly it is as though it has to catch up or something.. does anyone know why this happens? i also notice that my refresh rate in ubuntu is set to 75hz when my monitor is supposed to be 60hz but it does not allow me to change it for some reason.. could this be the problem? if so what do i do to fix it? i would be very grateful for any help..

netboot
hello all.
im running a ubuntu 6.10 server (1.7ghz, 512mbram, 200gb hard-drive). it's running lamp, and other stuff i've been adding as i go along, torrentlux, ssh etc.
now i have another pc, penitum 3, 400mhz, 128mbram, geforce 4 mx440. i had some success running geexbox on it.
however, the cd-rom, and hdd's in the pentium 3, aren't very reliable. seems the ide cables are buggered. and they are noisy. so i want to netboot it, using a floppy disc to boot the pc.
figured what i want is etherboot. but all walkthroughs i have require me to setup a dhcp server on the linux server box. this is a problem, as i use dhcp from my router, and most pc's are static anyway. (3 are static, 3 are dynamic). so can i use there walkthroughs without installing dhcp?. what's going to happen?.
also, is there a limit to the size of a os i can boot through the network?, like time/ ram wise? eg, to big a os might fail?

terminal disk space?
hi,
is there anyway of checking how much disk space i have left and have used via a linux terminal?.
i have a server pc setup, and i ssh into it from another pc. it has a 10gb (i think)hard-drive for the linux installation, and another 20gb hdd (sure on this one) setup for /home.
thing is i installed torrentflux on the box, set it up to use a folder etc. but it says i've used over 99% of the space and syas 180mb is left on the drive. there is about 16gb of backedup data being stored on a folder in my user name (shared via samba), a 1gb folder in downloads, and a 200mb file being stored on the drive in downloads, there was also a btcurses file being downloaded which would be 1gb tops, and im unsure on how to kill that now.
so i would just like to be able to figure out what's going on with my disk usage, as i will be upgrading to a nice 200gb hard-drive soon, but i want to know how to effectively manage it.

how do i see who is on my network?
hi,
i'm sorta new to ubuntu, and i wanted to 2 things really:
1. is there a program i can install to see who is actually connected to my router? i have a linksys wrt54gs
2. is there a program i can install that functions like the windows wireless monitor. you know, it shows you all the wireless networks in the area, their signal strength, and if they have wep or not. this would be very helpful.

question about xp re-install
i am going to try to re-install xp and have ubuntu/xp dual install. my gateway came with a recovery cd instead of the microsoft commercial cd. it says on the disc that it will erase the entire hard drive. is it safe to assume that it will not be able to read and erase my ubuntu partition? i have 250gb hd with about 150gb free space. i assume it will only read the free space, but not sure about the recovery cd.

how to use the terminal? total newbie
i'm a brand new ubuntu user. always used windows, but a friend told me about ubuntu. i downloaded 6.10 edgy and installed it on a sony vgn-t270p subnotebook. i got it installed and ran the update manager. now i want to install flash plug-in for firefox, but the install notes say to navigate to the desktop in the terminal. clueless on how. is there a link to using the terminal for dummies? any help would be appreciated. thanks.

spreading ubuntu
i ordered 10 cds of ubuntu and am distributing them. 4 converts already . they say that they will get shipit cds and distribute them to others. i already am trying to get my school to switch to ubuntu. so far i just installed firefox on some computers and blocked ie with the firewall
i am stopping vista from spreading
