.....when it's not freezing on me. i love the program, but it randomly freezes in the middle of songs on me, probably does it 5-10 times every day. i'm using the xine engine. what gives? i thought people had great luck with xine.

wireless question
i've been trying to get my wireless connection to work for while now, but with no sucess. i have a cnet cwp-854 pci card and i can see ra0 under the network manager, however, when i configure it and active it, ubuntu simply won't boot next time and i end up having to re-install everything. also, i don't know what my chipset is. when i type lspci -n | less, i get the following output:

subsytem: ralink: unknown device 2561however, when i type iwconfig, after ra0 appears rt61. i'm not sure if this is just the driver that comes with ubuntu, or the chipset of my card. to make things even more complicated, i don't have a ethernet connection, so i have to keep switching from ubuntu to xp. however, i'm determined to get it to work, so please, could someone help me out?

xorg update messes beryl
i just updated my system with latest kubuntu updates. after restarting x, beryl won't run. running "beryl-manager" or just "beryl" does the same - restart x. that's probably because updates included an xorg update.

i was told by a friend that :
format c:\ is the same as rm -rf *
rm -rf* does what exactly? i understand the rm, but what is -rf* ? thanks for the clarification.

i'm running the latest beta of feisty 7.04, so far everything is great, but i do have one small problem.
i need to be able to run both versions of firefox (i use the old one for a specific web based classroom application for some of my classes), but i'm having trouble.
2.0.0.3 runs fine, but when i download and extract 1.5.11 to it's own directory and run ./firefox from where i extracted the files, it just fires up version 2 instead. is there any way to have both versions installed and running from two separate icons?

how do i fix grub
i have a triboot system. i have windows xp, backtrack and ubuntu 6.06. i use gparted delted backtrack and installed backtrack2 over it. now i dont have the grub menu to choose which operating system i want. i know backtrack uses lilo instead of grub. how do i make it use grub instead. as soon as i turn on my laptop the backtrack automatically starts running. any help is great. thanks

firefox in linux
greetings good people of the ubuntu community,
firefox has been a pain in the *** for me. i find it, really bloated. and i also have some major problems with the flash plugin.
first of all, i'm using gentoo linux, in a pc with 1gb of ram, and a processor of 3.2ghz, which is more than enough for my needs. anyway, so i'm having firefox, a konsole with irssi open and amarok. in firefox i have 3 tabs open, including one with a flash video. when i'm switching tabs or changing between programs, i get full 3 or more seconds of waiting. also, in digg.com, i'm getting a hueg lagfest, taking me a while to scroll, and pressing the links will freeze firefox for like 2secs.. is this normal? i mean... i'm getting less freezing in windows...
also, about the flash player...
i'm attaching the info from about: plugins here, before i describe my problem:

so, well... the problem only appears in flash videos (like in youtube, metacafe etc.). the videos basicaly freeze. usually in the second or third second, but sometimes in the middle of it. to fix it, i'll have to kill firefox and start it again. also, flash is really laggy, and makes the whole page much more bloated than normally a flash application would.
any ideas?

opera conflicts with opera?
hey guys, i took some previous advice with firefox crashing on me all the time and went to install opera, so i did
code:
sudo aptitude install operaand was told that there was, something to the effect of, error: opera conflicts with previous installation of opera - theres a hidden directory .opera
anyway, i removed that and downloaded the file from opera's homepage and installed it with the gui but same thing again
can anyone help, i really wanna get going with ubuntu but this is a major setback not being able to get online for any decent length of time
